Interencheres was created in the early 2000s by three visionary auctioneers to group their auction listings together on a single site in order to optimise their visibility and raise awareness of their profession. Thanks to the support of the National Chamber of Judicial Auctioneers (CNCPJ), which was impressed by the project, the use of Interencheres was quickly extended to the entire profession, becoming the No. 1 site for auctions in France.
Over three million different lots (furniture, art and decor, fashion and jewellery, watches, music, wines and spirits, tableware, toys, books, computers and phones, sports and classic cars, household appliances, and professional equipment) are offered for sale on our site every year by auction houses located all over France.

To help you find that rare gem, Interencheres offers a free, unlimited alerts service. Names of artists, brands, types of objects, styles... With just 1 click, you can ask to be alerted to new items matching your searches. You will be notified by email as soon as a new lot likely to interest you is published on our site.
To do this, simply log in to your account, go to “My account” > “Alerts” section, then click the “Create alert” button.
Tip: For the most accurate alerts, we advise you to use inverted commas to create an alert for the exact keywords you specify (e.g. “romanée”, “fauteuil cabriolet”).
You can also exclude certain terms from your alerts by using a hyphen (for example: picasso-citroën will prevent you from getting cars in your alerts).
You can also use an asterisk for a more general search (for example: medal* will find results for medals, but also for medallions).

A Live auction is the online streaming of an auction that is currently taking place in the auction room. Interencheres Live technology lets you follow an auction from home and bid in real time, just like the bidders physically present in the auction room.
There are two ways to bid on the Live sales on Interencheres:
- live, during the sale: To attend a LIVE sale, simply register by entering your details and making a bank transfer. You can register before and during the sale. During the sale, your bids will be announced and counted by the auctioneer as if you were in the auction room.
-
by placing automatic bids: placed by our technology within the limit of your maximum bid, these bids (whose amounts are not shown to the auctioneers) are the ideal solution when you cannot follow the sale live through your screen. In fact, you can place automatic buy orders before the lot you are interested in comes up, even if the sale has already started.
These LIVE sales can be recognised on our site by the red icon and the red border on the lots. To find out more, see our “How to bid” section.
Please note: In France, the term “commissaire-priseur” is the usual term used to mean “auctioneer” . For more information on this terminology, see this article.

ONLINE sales are auctions during which lots are put up for auction for a certain number of days defined by the auctioneer, on which you can bid continuously until the timer runs out. Any bid placed on a lot in the last minute restarts the timer at 60 seconds to allow you to bid for as long as you wish. The last bid at the end of the timer will be the winning bid. There are two ways to bid on ONLINE sales published on Interencheres:
- Direct bids: until the timer on the lot runs out, you can bid the amount you want from your computer or smartphone. All you have to do is enter your bid amount on the lot page and validate it, or validate the next bid suggested to you. If you bid within a few seconds of the end of the timer, an additional 60 seconds will be added so you can bid before the lot closes in the ONLINE auction.
-
Automatic bids: These bids are also available for ONLINE sales. The principle is the same: you deposit your maximum amount and bids will then be placed for you automatically and digitally against the other bidders. The maximum amounts of the automatic bids are not disclosed to the auctioneers. This means that bidders are guaranteed a purchase at the fairest price if they win the auction.
You can see these ONLINE sales on our site by looking for the orange icon and the orange border on the lots.

Depending on the type of auction (Live, Online, Classic), you can bid by registering for the auction and placing different types of bid (fixed, automatic or Live).
I. Live auctions:
1.) Automatic auctions
For Live auctions (streamed live on Interencheres), you can place automatic bids in advance (these amounts are not disclosed to the auction houses). All you have to do is click the “Place a bid” button, then fill in a quick registration form with your details (address, phone number, etc.). Bidding automatically via our technology, these automatic auctions guarantee you the fairest price, within the limit of your maximum bid. Automatic auctions (or secret buy orders) are very practical if you can't follow and enter a live sale on the day.
2.) Live auctions
You can also bid (and outbid) live when a lot is up for auction. All you have to do is register for the sale, click on “Enter the sale” on the day of the sale, and then when the lot comes up, unlock the bid button by clicking “Bid €X”. During the sale, your bids will be announced and counted by the auctioneer as if you were in the auction room.II. Online auctions:
1.) Automatic purchase orders
You can place automatic buy orders on ONLINE sales by registering and entering the maximum amount of your bid. Your order (whose amount is not disclosed to the auction houses) will be deployed automatically by our technology, guaranteeing you the fairest price.2. ) Direct auctions
You can also bid for the amount you want until the timer on the lot runs out. All you have to do is enter your bid amount on the lot page and validate it, or validate the next bid suggested to you. If you bid within a few seconds of the end of the timer, an additional 60 seconds will be added before the bid closes.III. Catalog sales (non-live, non-online):
Fixed buy orders
You can place buy orders, indicating the maximum amount you are prepared to pay for the lot you are interested in. Prior to the sale, this maximum amount will be disclosed to the auction house. During the sale, the auctioneer will bid on your behalf, trying to buy the lot at the lowest possible price without exceeding your stated maximum amount. All you have to do is:
- go to the item you are interested in
- click the “Place a bid” button
- enter the maximum amount of your order then click the “Confirm” button
